SUMMARY

“The Revolution Will Not Be Polite: The Issue of Nice Versus Good"

A revolution to end a predisposition amongst people who believe that in order to achieve social justice there must be niceness, when in fact niceness is mistaken for goodness since social justice is based solely on the grounds of equality amongst members of a society to achieve harmony in coexistence and the author, who is presumably an activist in social movements through Tumblr, precautions readers to rethink niceness and to rethink oppression. Keeping in mind that mankind can be deceiving in more than one way, that they can use a smile and a friendly gesture of kindness to trick you into believing that they are here to help you, that a man would be a gentleman to win your heart over just so he’d have the pleasure of manipulating it later on, or as Gavin De Becker shows us in The Gift of Fear about how violence or violent people would be masked behind niceness. Moreover, there exist misconceptions between nice and good, that man is cultured to be ‘nice’ because an ethnic group had wanted it to be so. Manners, voice tone and treatment of others would be done ‘nicely’, that women would be confined by restraints of morals that were not theirs to decide, yet enforced upon them indefinitely. And that if the oppressed were to ask for freedom, they would have to ask ‘nicely’. It is known that social justice fights against discrimination of members of a society; putting a difference between two individuals, by belittling them on the basis of privilege, due to their socio-cultural background. They will be deprived of certain rights because they belong to an outlandish circle. Furthermore, the author concludes that oppression isn't ignited by insults, neither being good or being nice are the same. In order to have change on a social level, achieve social justice, and break socio-cultural norms, people should have a clear perspective on niceness and how it has nothing to do with social justice.

  1. Check moodle for grade. The main idea is a run on sentence. You do not reflect the main idea of the text but a jumble of ideas that start the text. Tumblr is too specific of an idea to include in the summary. Don't flower up the text. State exactly what she says in your own words. Why are you saying this: " Moreover, there exist misconceptions between nice and good, that man is cultured to be ‘nice’ because an ethnic group had wanted it to be so. Manners, voice tone and treatment of others would be done ‘nicely’, that women would be confined by restraints of morals that were not theirs to decide, yet enforced upon them indefinitely. And that if the oppressed were to ask for freedom, they would have to ask ‘nicely’." Your not reflecting the ideas of the text in this tone, but your own personal opinion. Don't flower up a text you are summarizing. The end is great.
