Summary of "The Revolution Will...Good" by Rachael

"The Revolution Will Not Be Polite: The Issue of Nice Versus Good" is a blog written by Rachael that draws a line between two expressions that are mistakenly entwined. It aims at destroying the impression that amiability (niceness) and altruism (being good) are related in any way when it comes to oppressive matters. The author states how abusive males in society use compliments and politeness to their advantage to lead women into a trap. This is possible because niceness has been built into the brain in association with good people, causing several women to let down their guard and be vulnerable to such vicious physical, psychological, or emotional attacks. Also, Rachael maintains that the concept of privilege is widely misunderstood and misinterpreted in the media and among humans in various places in the world. It is misconstrued in a way that gives certain people, mainly the upper class whites, more rights than other people, like people of color. Moreover, she argues that it is more harmful when the oppressor insults the oppressed rather than the converse. In brief, the point that Rachael is trying to show is how nice and politeness is not necessarily associated with virtuousness, and that one should learn to erase the mentality that all nice people are good, for good people do not oppress others and take their rights away.

  1. Check moodle for your grade. The main idea is way too broad. Does she specify women the way you do. I don't think so and I think you misunderstood the text here. You end this summary so well.
