Don’t Let Your Kids Watch Dancing With the Stars
But Chaz Bono should not be
applauded for asserting she is a man (and goes about trying to look like one)
any more than a woman who believes she will be happier without arms, has them
removed and then continues to assert that she was right all along—her
self-concept was that of a double amputee. Now, all is well (Ablow).
The main issue with a defense like this is that it’s very
flawed. In today’s time you find women and even teenage girls going to the
plastic surgeon to get things about themselves that they don’t like fixed ( be
it their noses, lips, breasts, stomachs..) and people seem not to mind, because these changes make these people feel happier about themselves. Feel like the
people they always wanted to be. How that is any different from letting someone, who has struggled throughout their lives, go and change what
they don’t feel right about themselves, in order to be happy? And the amputating part, is similar to the ticking time
bomb scenario people usually use when defending torture. It might
be a good example to him when trying to attack the idea of a SRS (sex
reassignment surgery), but the problem here is that it simply hasn't happened
and I don’t believe it will. Its a made up scenario, and made up is not usually good when proving your point
"Somehow, with enormous compassion and love and God’s help, we would get through it.", from this sentence, you can tell that Ablow is a religious man and that might help explain a little as to the way he views this issue. With him being a christian, he might think that someone going through a process like this, is going against 'gods creations' and that may seem like a scary topic to him, because he might support the fact that god makes no mistakes, and here we are trying to fix something that god made.
