Summary

Summary
-            Aya Diab

In The Revolution Will Not Be Polite, the writer expresses her feelings toward the social oppression of people to others. In her opinion, she believes that people consider being nice as an important aspect of social justice. Social justice is the core of defending people against marginalization and privilege, so to reach social justice, all people should be treated equally disregarding their race or sexuality.

Being “good” and being “nice” both mean the opposite thing. A person can be nice to another person just to oppress him/her from freely given legal rights or just to cause un-needed damage. Being good doesn’t mean that the person will always act nice, but it means that that person is acting upon misunderstood privileges. Privilege is about obeying the rules and acting upon them according to the social norms, and people should not be restricted into certain rules they should exercise.

“Manners” and “acting nice” are usually misunderstood. Manners is defined by class, but being nice is cultural. The confusion between the two usually results in calling people names. People start to act rude because they can't seem to understand the difference between a racist and a “mannered” insult.

Women want to reach social justice, especially when it comes to the equality between them and men. Some women are attracted to “nice” men, who then turn out to be abusers. Women and anyone who wants social justice must fight against oppression because everyone equal rights.

As a conclusion, to form an equally non-racist , oppressed world, people need to focus on the better ways of being nice and using their goodness for the benefit of others , and they need to fight back any law that oppresses their daily activities.

  1. Check moodle for grade. The main idea is grammatically incorrect and too broad. Some of the details are to specific. I worry that maybe you misrepresent the essay at times. Otherwise good.
