The Revolution Will Not Be Polite: Summary

The conflation of "nice" and "good" is an issue that directly or indirectly reinforces sexism, racism, and various other forms of discrimination. Niceness doesn't determine goodness because one may use niceness to push his/her own agenda. Many laws and social/cultural norms are unfair and do not apply to certain types of people, making them feel left out, or more so that they are doing something wrong. The fact that they are marginalized for having certain characteristics or belonging to a certain group shows that social injustice is rampant. If someone is oppressed, they shouldn't be "nice" or "polite" about it, they should rebel against the norms by firmly putting their foot down and demanding that they be treated as equals to the rest of society. Everyone is entitled to their rights regardless of law or culture.

  1. Check moodle for your grade. The main idea is good, don't quote and don't use her words "conflation". Good Summary. I feel like at times you almost say something she doesn't necessarily mean. You are writing in your own words and the wording comes off like interpretation at points in the middle of the summary.
